Bukom Island Retreat

We begin the new year with a family gathering at Pulau Bukom resort. We were all psyched up for the games and barbeques and awards. Everyone were all gathered at the ferry terminal by noon at Pasir Panjang, and boarded the ferry to take us to Pulau Bukom.
The resort rooms were very big, but with a "little tint of spooky", especially the outside corridors, but when together-together oklah not so bad. The swimming pool is the best -gorgeous views and very deep.

Bowling
The first match of the day was bowling, and everyone was super duper psyched with their partners to get the top score. Everyone is involved, even the "golden citizens" gave a close fight to the young ones. To tell you the truth we were under pressure to retain our title, and we choked. Started with several longkangs, but luckily we had some strikes towards the end, which put us in second place. Everyone blame the lane, the ball, the aircon, but not themselves... haha hilarious! There were so much cheers and jeers, I'm surprised the roof didn't caved in on us. Nevertheless it was all in good fun, and I'm pleased to report, other then Zetty and Bakjat, the rest including us didn't improved at all... hahaha.

Badminton Match
The next game was badminton, and refereed by Abg Lan. Almost every team was confused during the start - where to stand and who to serve to. Some players were quite impressive, but can't say the same for their partners. JJ was impressive during play and so was his son Khairul (one of those unlucky people who had to partner the wife and sister.. hehe). Wak Sam, not bad for his age, his volleys and smashes very accurate and powerfull. Anis and Mai were outstanding badminton players and rightly deserve the championship trophy, after beating Yan and Herman.

As for me and my partner (wife), we were beaten by Is and Zetty, but we wouldn't want to blame ourselves, so we blame our Shing Shong rackets ($3.90) that we used.

The Barbeque
Lighting the firestarter was a disaster. Food was in abundance but the fire was still no where in-sight. Finally when it started, we ate hot dogs first, totally unglamourous. Then the ikan pari and sotongs came and went very fast. By the end of the barbeque, I had to lie down for a while, because "stuffs" were wanting to come out from my both ends. The children played some telematch games, and for some there were riddles and "dirty talks" from... (well you know who you are).

Captain Ball
What would you get if you put a mix bunch of teenagers, middle age and senior citizens women, mothers of 1 to 6, in a game of Captain Ball. I had visions of slow and lazy females standing around and waiting for the ball, and not making any effort to play. BOY, I WAS SO WRONG!!! This game should be rename Brutal Ball after watching the match. The term 'Gropping' will not turn me on anymore, and I am traumatised for life if I see a woman with a ball in their hand. Players were being pushed - shoved - molested - exploited - groped, and these people are my sisters and my nieces!

Its even more violent than a rugby match. Husbands watched in bewilderment at what their "sweet and adorable" wife have become. They chased after the ball, threw it all over the place, shoved each other to the gound and even when someone had the ball, they still go after it. HELLO! The rules states that when someone keep the ball for more than 3 seconds, the play will stop and the ball will be forfeited and given to the other side. So much about rules... this is a game without rules!

The most tersangatlah BRUTALEST! player in my opinion, is Oja. Even though she didn't get the ball (wonder why nobody pass to her? hehehe) , she kept on running and running, goes after the players, taking down one after another. Caught on my video, as she mows down Mai in one swoop, and Mai fell to the ground, and then she carries on going after the other players, all the while with a smile on her face. Need 2 girls to hold both her arms! Oja - I Salute You! I admire your sportsmanship! You are the WOMAN! (I'm smilling whenever I remember her karate chop).

Nevertheless, its fun to see these women doing some "heavy breathing" for something else for a change (how come that doesn't sounds right).

Street Soccer
I was so relief this game was not held at the football field, but instead at the basketball court. So it became a street soccer game one with 7 players at each side. During the game, Herman and Hakim both kick the ball to their father's head, unintentionally of course. I had a ball in my face from Khairul's penalty kick, nevermind, I endure anything other than running up and down a field.

The prize giving presentation and awards was held indoors in one of the room. We celebrated Sabrina's birthday and then followed by prize presentation, given by the CEO of Hj Salleh Pte. Ltd.

We at YLO IN DA HOUSE would like to THANK EVERYONE WHO VOTED FOR US AND ALSO TO ANYONE WHO VISITS OUR BLOG!

We are flattered by your votes, and we hold the trophies in high regards, because you will not find these in any flea markets or anywhere in the world. These trophies came from our family. Personalised with your family name, and presented by the oldest family member - our father / our atuk / nyai Hj Salleh. You will not get these anywhere, as such its a family treasure.

If you have been awarded one, from past and present, treasure them and keep them carefully, and present them in your home proudly. Let these trophies be a reminder to us in the future for our children and grandchildrens, not as winning trophies, but as a momento, in a time when we are together, shared laughter and joy, and had fun as a family in 2007.

*lastly we THANK our brother/uncle Abdul Kadir for making all this happen. May ALLAH bless you!
